Volume I: Commentary and Structural Analysis

Volume I of Enlightened Society: A Shambhala Buddhist Reading of the Yijing offers a commentary and structural analysis of the text. It covers a number of topics:

1. The mythic history of the Yijing and a brief description of the Yijing’s journey in the west.

2. A summary of the basic elements of the Yijing—the trigrams, hexagrams and the sequence of the hexagrams.

3. Key foundational concepts drawn both from the Yijing, The Great Treatise (Vol. II), and resonant principles from the Shambhala Buddhist tradition.

4. A rigorous structural and textual analysis of the 64 hexagrams that explicates the structure of the text. This section discusses the yang and yin lines, the trigrams, the two traditional arrangements of the trigrams, the hexagrams, and the sequence of the hexagrams.

5. This section offers a number of readings of the hexagrams based on structural and sequential rationales.

This volume will be available early in 2021. (To help support this project see Supporting Volume I)
